What's left of a vehicle after a carport fire in Mt. Juliet predawn Thursday.

A carport and two vehicles were destroyed in a predawn blaze in Mt. Juliet Thursday.

According to Wilson Emergency Management Agency Director John Jewell, the homeowner heard "popping noises" coming from her detached carport at 3131 West Division Street and discovered her truck on fire around 1:30 a.m.

"When firefighters arrived at the scene the truck was fully involved and the flames had jumped to an SUV parked next to it," said Jewell.

The fire spread to engulf the carport structure before firefighters could extinguish the flames, said Jewell.

"The siding on the side of the house also melted," he said.

The couple inside the home escaped injury. Cause of the fire was not known at post time.
