Saturday blackout related to Nashville substation

Sept. 1, 2011 - Early Saturday evening, the heart of Mt. Juliet experienced a blackout that lasted about two hours, according to Mt. Juliet Police Chief Andy Garrett.

The blackout encompassed the North Mt. Juliet Road and Lebanon Road areas.

The local Kroger and other businesses were in the dark unable to tend customers as Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation worked to fix the problem that stemmed from a Nashville Electric Company substation failing.

"It was a domino effect," said Garrett.

MJPD officers directed traffic at all the affected stop lights.
