Mr. King, 87, of Mt. Juliet, died Monday, May 20.

Birdie Smith, age 89, of Mt. Juliet, passed away Sunday May 19, 2019. Birdie was born Dec. 23, 1929.

Birdie is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Raymond) Chambliss; daughter, Glenda Davis; son, Randall (Debbie) Jones; one brother; one sister; 11 grandchildren; and many loving family members.

Mrs. Johnson, age 83, of Mt. Juliet, passed away May 7, 2019.

Jane was born Oct. 3, 1935 in Clifton Forge, Virginia to the late Kyle and Polly Gutshall. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Garnet Gutshall; brother, Clifford Gutshall; and sister, Nancy Gaines.

Jane moved with her family to Chattanooga when she was 7 years old so her father could work at Atlas Powder Co. for the war effort. After marrying Donald Johnson, they moved to Nashville. Jane worked in retail business in her young life and became a buyer at Harvey’s Department Store. She was past president of the Nashville Elks Ladies. 

Jane is survived by her husband, Donald Johnson; daughter, Michelle Kempf; brother, Jim Gutshall; sister, Marilyn Roger; brother, Randolph Gutshall; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert J. Walley

A memorial service for Mr. Walley will be held Friday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Sellars Funeral Home at Mt. Juliet. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Walley, age 60, of Mt. Juliet, passed away April 15, 2019 at home surrounded by family after a long struggle with cancer.

He was born Dec. 2, 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania to Robert F. and Marie Henrich Walley and was the oldest of three children. Robert was active in the Boy Scouts growing up, ultimately earning the title of Eagle Scout. After he graduated from high school, he attended Penn State, where he was president of the Forestry Fraternity. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in administrative management, then, later earned an associate’s degree in mechanical engineering technology. Robert was employed at Bridgestone for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Henrich Walley.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Montoya; father, Robert F. Walley; children, Stacey Harper, Nicole (Patrick) Judge, Marci (Elliott) Zerbe, Madison Walley, Jason Bodner, Anthony (Perla) Bodner, Eric Bodner, Melissa Bodner; siblings, Michael (Shirl) Walley, Donna (Daniel) Swinford; and seven grandchildren.

The Walley family appreciates the support and prayers of those who were blessed enough to know Robert.

Mrs. Warren died Tuesday, March 26.

Robert Monroe Eakes

Visitation for Mr. Eakes was held Thursday, March 28, 2019 from 4-7 p.m. and again Friday, March 29 from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 11 a.m. in the Partlow Funeral Chapel. Brother Tim Eaton officiated, and interment followed in the Wilson County Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Eakes, age 85, of Mt. Juliet, passed away Monday, March 25, 2019. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Winford and Sybil Eakes; and brothers, Martin and Charles Eakes. 

He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie (Joe) Carlton, Debbie Smith, Robin O’Neal; son, Terry Sentell; sister, Charlene Carter; grandchildren, Meredith Davis, Grant Carlton; great-grandchildren, McKinley and Hudson Davis; nephews, Gary Eakes, Troy Stribling, Todd Stribling, Trey Stribling; and companion, Judy Scott.

Mr. Eakes was a 1952 graduate of Mt. Juliet High School and a retired farmer.

Jennifer Leigh Smith

Visitation for Mrs. Smith was held Sunday, March 31 from 2-6 p.m. and Monday, April 1 from 10 a.m. until noon with a funeral service conducted by the Rev. Matthew Warren and the Rev. Jack Stone following visitation at Austin and Bell Funeral Home in White House. Burial and committal service will immediately follow at White House Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Smith, age 49, of White House, passed away March 28, 2019 after a brief battle with cancer.

Jennifer was born Sept. 11, 1969 in Johnson City to Jerry and June Good Taylor. Jennifer spent her early years in Jonesborough but moved to Portland her sophomore year of high school. She graduated from Volunteer State Community College and finished her paralegal degree at Southeastern Paralegal Institute.

Jennifer worked as a paralegal for more than 27 years for John and Grayson Smith Cannon. She most recently supported Grayson at Phillips & Ingrum Attorneys at Law in Gallatin. She was a dedicated professional and very well respected by her peers.

Jennifer was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Lee Taylor; and grandparents, Kyle and Elizabeth Wysor Taylor and Paul and Edith Moyers Good.

Jennifer is survived by her husband of 24 years, Mark E. Smith; sons, Matthew and Evan Smith, of White House; mother, June Good Taylor; sister, Jeanna Taylor both of Portland; in-laws, Kenneth and Fay Smith, of Hermitage; and numerous uncles, aunts, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made to White House Youth Soccer Scholarship Fund. Jennifer took great pleasure for many years watching her boys play soccer, and she also enjoyed the company of what have become lifelong family friends. David Everett Scott

Funeral services for Mr. Scott will be held Sunday, March 24 at 2 p.m. at Sellars Funeral Home in Mt. Juliet with Brother Billie Friel and Brother David Fallin officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, March 23 from 4-7 p.m. and Sunday, March 24 one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Scott was born March 25, 1949 in Glendale, Ohio. David was saved at Pisgah Heights Baptist Church at age 23. He was involved in youth ministry and ran a bus route in Mason, Ohio. He served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, usher, Royal Ambassadors leader and helped in the bus and youth ministry for more than 28 years at First Baptist Church in Mt. Juliet. David was vice president of sales at McCarthy, Jones and Woodard and retired April 3, 2015 after about 30 years. He was a member of the Door and Hardware Institute with the designation of architectural hardware consultant, the Construction Specifications Institute and the Mt. Juliet Rotary Club. He served on the Mt. Juliet Sewer Commission, Mt. Juliet Planning Commission and finally as a city commissioner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret Jean Scott and Amos Logan Scott; brother, Alan Keith Scott; and brother-in-law, Jim Morris.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Scott; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Susan Scott; son and daughter-in-law, Jarod and Ioana Scott, and their children, Olivia, E.J., Kaylan; and daughter and son-in-law, Lindsay and Nick Tate, and their children, Andrew and Ruby Ann.
