Local girl scouts participated Friday and Saturday in rehab work on the rain garden in Charlie Daniels Park next to the community garden.
Girls were earning the I climbed Mt. Juliet patch and spent the days installing retaining walls, backfilling the retaining wall, planting new native plants and mulching the rain garden.
Adam Meadors with the City of Mt. Juliet Public Works Department explained how the rain garden promotes recharge of the ground water and why it is important for safe drinking water and water quality of our streams and rivers. Jan Littrell with Mt. Juliet Parks and the Wilson County Master Gardeners was on site Saturday to demonstrate the community garden and even let the scouts try broccoli grown in the garden.
