MT. JULIET — Alyssa Costley pitched a complete game Monday to send Mt. Juliet past Riverdale 8-2 in the season opener for both teams.

It was also a successful head coaching debut for Kevin Costley, the veteran Lady Bear assistant (and Alyssa’s father) who swapped positions with Hailey Knepp since last season.

Cam Cernuto went 3-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Bears, who carried an 8-0 lead into the late innings.

Wilson Central opens Commando Classic with win, tie

HENDERSONVILLE — Wilson Central outscored William Blount 7-6 last Friday in the first game of the Commando Classic at Drakes Creek Park.

Alaina Morris and Sydnee Richetto each racked up two hits for the Lady Wildcats.

Central followed with a 5-5 tie  against Oakland in a game called due to the time limit.

The Lady Wildcats led 2-0 before Oakland went up 5-2 in the second inning.

Richeeto tripled while her sister, Kaylee, and Mekayla Marshall doubled. Freshman Taelor Chang went 2-for-2.
